The Aviators were introduced to the public by Ray-Ban in 1937, that were a remake of the plastic framed glares by Bausch and Lomb for the Air Force pilots of USA as they required sunglasses to reduce glare. The Aviators features a metal frame encapsulating the lens (green, black or brown) that followed the contour of the eye socket to reduce light exposure. Ray Ban expanded their Aviator catalog of styles and lens types. They became quite popular among civilians as military-type clothing and accessories influenced fashion.

  1. Wayfarer

The Ray-Ban Wayfarer was introduced in 1952 and was popularized by James Dean’s movie Rebel Without a Cause. In place of metal, the frames of Wayfarers were made from moulded plastic, and were bolder and brighter. Both, the shape and its method of manufacture of Wayfarers were groundbreaking. This particular style was popularized by Bob Dylan who was rarely seen without his Wayfarers. Michael Jackson’s Bad tour from 1987 to 1989 became the  highest-attended tour in history where this star wore Wayfarers and made this style trendy..

  1. Clubmaster

The Clubmaster was introduced by Ray Ban in the mid-1980s. These were a response to the resurgence of the Browline glasses, named for the bold upper line of the frames. The Browlines were in trend in the late 50s till the early 60s. These abruptly came back into demand between 1978 and 1980 and Ray Ban introduced their own Browline style, the Clubmaster. This style became extremely popular on dance floors.
